How to get out of a Rut and move forward with your life

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

Sometimes we just find ourselves in a rut, where we are not feeling how we want to feel, we are not doing what we want to do and we can’t seem to find the motivation to do anything. Often we know where we want to be and we know how to get there but there is some sort of mental block stopping us. Getting back to our routine and habits seems like a long journey away, even though we know it’s not. We don’t know where to start so we just don’t start anything.

Just like you didn’t fall into this feeling overnight, it will take small steps and little momentum habits to get back to where you want to be. You don’t ever suddenly get into a rut and you won’t suddenly get out. Think of your life as a huge building with 40 floors. The top floor is you performing at your highest and the basement is you being in your rut and not feeling the way you want to feel. There’s no elevator in the building. You can’t get to the top or the bottom very quickly There’s only a stairs. Does it mean you cannot get to the top floor? No. It just means it will take a little longer; one step at a time. You getting in the rut just means you took a few flights of stairs in the wrong direction. It’s time to turn around and go back up. I know you don’t want to stay in the position you are in right now, because if you did, you wouldn’t be reading this.

Were going to get you back up the stairs and were going to do it by giving you what I like to call the ‘Momentum habits’. These habits are specifically designed to create that snowball effect that can kickstart your climb; whether it’s to do with a health journey, a business venture or just life in general. There may be underlying issues that need addressing such as lack of organizational skills, lack of life skills, lack of clarity on life, depression, substance abuse, medical conditions. These momentum habits are designed to be implemented WHILE addressing these bigger issues, not INSTEAD of tackling them

Not everyone may actually be suffering from these underlying issues and just a simple implementation of these momentum habits can solve the blip but if you are one of those people who has been in a long term rut, then it may be time to invest in your well being.
